There are several different schools that offer courses and study in Architecture and other similar fields.
In fact, with so many institutions to choose from, finding a top architecture school that’s right for you can be challenging. So how does one find out what the top architecture schools are?

There are many factors that students can consider when looking for a top architecture school, that can help them spot which ones offer the best education, as well as options, to suit their needs.

The majority of fully qualified architects have studied and completed a 5 year Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. The Bachelor’s is the preferred route taken by architectural students and most universities require 5 years study from pupils, in order to earn their degree.

Of course, there are other selections available for those wishing to complete their study sooner, and an Associate’s degree or Certificate are two principal study options taken by students. Although a certificate in architecture is more of a beginner’s course, or introduction to architecture, it is a considerable choice for someone who wishes to be a casual learner and can be completed relatively quickly, within months in some cases. A Certificate also gives way for students to take their study further, and can be used for credit in more complicated study degrees.

An Associate’s degree is similar to a Bachelor’s but is more career-oriented and can be done within two years for a full-time student. The most appealing thing about a certificate or Associate’s degree is that you can finish and be working in your particular field very rapidly, a great advantage to many architectural students. Whatever path is chosen, make sure it is an accredited course in architecture that adheres to standards designated by a selected board.

Of course, the type of career you ultimately wish to have is going to be a major deciding factor in the architectural school you choose. Several varied, interesting careers are out there for the budding architect, such as drafting, digital design, home design, interior design and AutoCAD (computer aided drafting). Career titles such as architectural draftsperson and engineering CAD technician, are but some of the many choices available once study is concluded.

You might also consider not only studying architecture, but also studying one of the many related fields to architecture, as this will help complement your skills nicely. Some related topics include math, communication, architectural theory, engineering or even art.

Take account of what topics you want to study, and then find as many schools as possible offering what you need, so you can evaluate and select the school that is best for you. The internet is obviously a great way to start your search and a treasure trove of information can be found on architectural schools and the programs they are offering, as well as potential careers.

Architecture is a wonderful, exciting study path full of varied options for your future career, and plenty of opportunities exist out there for a fledgling architect. All it takes is the will and effort and you’ll be on your way in no time!
