T.V. Santhosh (born 1968) is an artist currently living and working in Mumbai. Santhosh received his B.F.A. from Kalabhavan, Santiniketan, West Bengal, and received an M.F.A. in Sculpture from M.S.U., Baroda. As in internationally renowned artist, Santhosh’s work has been included in group and solo exhibits around the world, including exhibits in London, Mumbai, Zurich, New Delhi, New York City, and Portugal. Although Santhosh is famous for his striking paintings, he has also contributed mixed media installations featured in galleries and private collections worldwide.
Santhosh’s paintings are heavily influenced by news reports, highlighting themes of war, civil unrest, terrorism, and violence. Working in his signature style of the “solarized negative,” Santhosh’s paintings feature bright reds, greens, oranges and yellows instead of cooler blue and white tones typically associated with negative images. These brilliant colors add a layer of depth and urgency to paintings, heightening the impact of the subject matter. His solo shows and exhibits have featured sculptures and installations, in addition to his paintings. His creations encourage the audience to examine how the news media shapes interpretations of global conflicts and social injustices, and draw from either real news media sources or imagined scenes.
