VCAD’s Fine Arts diploma program is highly-regarded for providing a well-rounded arts education in an environment that emphasizes creativity and individuality. The constant evolution of digital design leads employers within the industry to continually seek out only the best-trained candidates for the job. Our Applied Arts curriculum has been developed to ensure that our graduates are successful in meeting the employment requirements of these industries. VCAD maintains close ties with the fashion, graphic design and video gaming industries to continually assess our curriculum and gain insight about industry needs.

Our students receive focused and specialized training on the tools, techniques and technology used in their chosen career field. They work on intense deadline-driven projects that will prepare them for the challenges they’ll face on the job. Diploma of 3D Modeling Animation and Art & Design
The 3D Modeling Animation Art & Design program focuses on providing graduates with a solid foundation in the technical and artistic skills needed to be successful in the game, animation and CGI industries. Key to this is a genuine understanding of storytelling, game design, game play, modelling, and animation techniques. Students will acquire a solid foundation in traditional artistic techniques. Students will learn color theory, design fundamentals and life drawing, and will apply this knowledge to the production and animation of characters, lighting, texturing, layout and design. Students will be able to apply industry standard software tools and techniques to production processes. A key program outcome is an industry standard portfolio.
Diploma of Fashion Design
The Fashion Design program is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the exciting field of fashion design. This program provides the practical and technical skills necessary to be successful in this field. Students learn about the concepts of design, layout, colour theory, fashion illustration and design, fashion marketing, pattern making, and garment construction. A balanced combination of classroom theory and studio time allows the student to gain a solid understanding of the industry, trends, and apparel production. Students will become technically proficient with the software packages used to produce patterns, flats and a personal PR kit. By the end of this program, through a capstone experience students will have assembled a portfolio and apparel line that showcases their ability to translate creative ideas into professional design concepts and a final garment collection.
Diploma of Graphic Design
The Graphic Design program is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the exciting field of Graphic Arts. This program provides the practical and technical skills necessary to be successful in this field. Students learn about the concepts of design, layout, color theory, typography, prepress processes, presentation, advertising and marketing. Students will become technically proficient with the software included in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) for print production and Dreamweaver, Flash and ActionScript for Web design. By the end of this program, students will have assembled a portfolio that showcases their ability to translate creative ideas into professional quality print and web based layouts and designs.
Diploma of Interior Design
The Interior Design program is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the exciting field of Interior design. This program provides the practical and technical skills necessary to be successful in this field. Students learn about the concepts of design, layout, colour theory, architectural and structural styles, and the elements that are commonly used in interior spaces. Students will become technically proficient with the software packages used to produce design drawings and models. By the end of this program, students will have assembled a portfolio that showcases their ability to translate creative ideas into professional quality design concepts and diagrams.
Diploma of Marketing and Merchandising for Fashion
The Marketing & Merchandising for Fashion diploma prepares students for entry level positions in the fashion retail field. Upon completion of the 60 week (1200 hours) program graduates will have acquired competencies in consumer buying, sales event and promotion, fashion styling, pricing, apparel production, and product and consumer merchandizing. Key to this is a genuine understanding of the role of marketing and merchandising in the fashion industry. Students will acquire a solid foundation in customer, and channel relationships, retail strategic planning, and the fashion product life cycle. These skills are fundamental to the success of any fashion business and the retail experience.
Diploma of Mobile Game Design and Development
You love innovation, building amazing games and having fun along the way? Mobile game design and development is definitely one of the hottest emerging fields around.
The latest mobile devices have changed the way we communicate and entertain ourselves creating a demand for mobile application designers, developers, artists and application testers.
The Mobile Game Design and Development program will provide students with the technical skills needed to jump-start an exciting career in the fast-paced mobile development environment.Students will gain a strong knowledge of multiplatform mobile technologies and tools. From game design to scripting and coding and 3D animation, the program will cover the fundamentals you need to launch an exciting new career. They’ll also be able to apply industry standard software and techniques to the creation of mobile applications.
Career opportunities exist in a wide range of settings within the mobile development industry including animation studios, game development companies and more.
Upon successful completion of the four terms of this program, the graduate will be able to:

Diploma of Game Development and Design
You want to turn your passion for playing video games into a successful career? The Game Development and Design program provides graduates with the solid technical and artistic foundations they’ll need to become a part of this growing industry. In order to be successful in the game, animation and CGI industries, you’ll learn the key of storytelling, game design, game play, modeling, and animation techniques. From color theory, design fundamentals to life drawing, students will be able to apply industry standard software tools and techniques to production processes.
Career opportunities can be found in a variety of CGI-based industries, including computer animation studios, game development companies, post production and special effects studios. They may also work for industrial design firms and software producers, or for companies that require the production of 3D graphics and animation.
