The Digital Animation and Visual Effects School, known as the DAVE School, is found on the backlot of Universal Studios, Florida. This school offers a one-year program that trains students in computer animation for mediums such as film, television and gaming. Teachers provide training on visual effects composting, character animation, hard surface and organic modeling, and more. The school provides assistance on career building and employment skills throughout the program.
At the end of the year, DAVE students go through a 12-week production exercise where they are placed with a crew of an animated film. While with the crew, students use the same equipment and software as visual effects professionals.
The Digital Media Arts College in Boca Raton, Fla., is another visual effects school that provides in-depth training in computer graphics.The school offers a bachelor’s degree that takes three and a half years to complete and a master’s degree program that lasts one and a half years. The faculty has had experience in the visual effects industry with companies like Sega, ImageWorks, Disney, and others.
DMAC has top-rated labs and facilities along with one of the only motion capture studios in the region. A bachelor’s degree from this school in computer animation, graphic design or advertising design will prepare students for careers as a modelers, animators, Web site designers, graphic designers or game designers.
A master’s degree in special effects animation or graphic design from DMAC will help students obtain careers as modeling technician directors, Web creative directors, advertising creative directors or lead artists.
Finally, The Art Institutes has a chain of schools of 40 schools throughout North America. The school offers visual effects programs at four location in Florida: Miami, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and Jacksonville.
The four schools offer associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in graphic design; Web design and interactive media; digital filmmaking and video production; game art and design; graphic design; media arts and animation; visual effects and motion graphics; and several others.
