Which of the architecture colleges will make the best choice for aspiring architects? It all depends on you. If you dream of making a name for yourself in the field and attaining glamorous assignments designing buildings, then you best bet will be a professional architecture degree. But if your interest lies more in designing and building everyday homes, then you most likely do not need to attend one of the top architecture colleges. You will be able to get the education you need at a non-professional architecture college.
But how to start choosing when you have over 100 options to look at? First of all, begin by taking a good look at your goals. What, exactly, do you want to learn to design? It is important to have at least some idea of this when you begin your search for architecture colleges. Next, get yourself a copy of the Guide to Architecture Schools, published by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. This excellent guidebook should be available at architecture libraries, bookstores, or online.
This guide book lists the programs which all of the architecture colleges offer, including their costs and the all-important enrollment requirements. Set aside an evening or two to look through this book. You’ll want to narrow your selections down to half-dozen or so. Your next step will be to contact each of these architecture colleges and ask them for more information on their programs. The easiest way to do this is on the internet, by looking up the site of each of the architecture colleges individually, or by taking advantage of one of the directories. After you have looked over the various catalogs from the architecture colleges of your choice, you can then decide which ones you might want to visit.
Another excellent way to get information about architecture colleges is to visit local architecture offices. Most architects are passionate about their work and they love to share their passion. You can get a good idea of the types of architecture you might want to specialize in doing this. While on a visit, you can also ask the architects what schools they attended, and what schools they hire a lot of people from. Ask them what school they would choose if they were just starting out today. An on-site visit can glean you all sorts of useful information about architecture colleges.
Architecture is a highly rewarding career that can be lucrative, too. Get a head start on your new career by researching the best architecture colleges today.
