Another accredited option in the San Antonio area is University of the Incarnate Word, a private school which offers a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Environmental Design. Within this university is a student organization, The American Society of Interior Design, whose members have opportunities to gain experience and knowledge by working with professionals. Individuals who have successfully completed an interior design degree and are ready to begin their careers may be able to secure a full time position with a larger corporation, but should expect positions with small firms to be on a per-job basis. Those who are self-employed tend to have more stress in some areas, such as trying to find clients and trying to stay within budgets and timelines of those clients, and they are also apt to work the most hours.
Some places require that individuals become licensed through The National Council of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) in order to practice as an interior designer. The laws vary greatly throughout the United States, so those who are not anticipating becoming licensed through NCIDQ should remember this when choosing their living/working location upon completion of their degree.

San Antonio is a good choice for students not living in the immediate area, as there are several travel options. San Antonio International Airport is within miles of downtown. There are several freeways serving the area as well, three of which together create a route that encompasses the downtown area.
