According to the US News and World Report, the top three Best Fine Art Programs in the US are as follows Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Yale School of Art (YSA) and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Although ranking changes every year RISD, YSA and SAIC are consistently present amongst the top three.
So what constitute the Best Fine Art Program?
First, the Curriculum. The school should offer quality and diverse programs to suit the ever evolving global trends. For which, RISD's mission is to educate it's students in the creation and appreciation of works of art and design, to discover and transmit knowledge and to make lasting contributions to the global society. It offers 16 undergraduate majors and 17 graduate degrees, such as Apparel Design, Architecture, Ceramics, Digital Media, Film/ Animation/ Video, Furniture Design, Graphic Design to name a few. For YSA, only the degree of Master of Fine Arts is being offered with four interrelated areas of study: graphic design, painting/ printmaking, photography and sculpture. SAIC offers a broad range of fine arts degrees and it’s interdisciplinary; a selected course of concentration is not necessary. It is often referred as an exceptionally driven art school. A total of 25 undergraduate and graduate degrees are being offered.

Notable alumni: for RISD – Bob Steiner (Painter), John Crawford (Sculptor); for YSA – Maya Lin (Sculptor), Charles Gawthmey (Architect); and for SAIC - Walt Disney (Animator, founder of Walt Disney), Enrique Alferez (Sculptor) and Bill Mauldin (two time Pulitzer Prize winner) to name a few. The Yale Alumni Magazine reported in its November/December 2008 issue that the School admitted sixty-five from among 1142 applicants for its class of 2010, and that fifty-six of them enrolled.
