What exactly do interior designers do once they receive their degree from one of the San Luis Obispo interior design schools? They are the people that are responsible for planning out the way the interior spaces of private and commercial buildings look right down to the colors, layout and type and style of furniture that is used within it, be it the head person’s desk or the waiting room furniture and everything in between. A good interior designer will be able to make the interior spaces functional and beautiful at the same time, and when it is done right it will increase the market value of the building regardless of what the building is used for.
One thing that must be made clear is that interior design is different from interior decorating. The interior decorator focuses on adding the accents to the spaces after the designer has chosen the style, color palette, furniture and accessories that met the initial objectives of the job. This means they have been trained to professionally change a room or all of a building’s interior space to meet the project before final construction begins. They get to see the blueprints and plans beforehand and are able to go in and add things such as built in bookcases, crown molding or move the location of stairs, walkways, windows, and other elements.
Blueprint reading is not the only thing an interior designer learns at the San Luis Obispo interior design schools they attend. They are also required to learn and understand the current safety regulations, building code for their area, and accessibility standards that will apply to the project they are working on. They will be able to collaborate with engineers, contractors, and architects to not only make sure the client’s needs and wants are met but to also ensure that the design is done to meet all safety and construction requirements. Plus, interior designers are responsible for keeping all of the work well within the budget parameters of the project which could include having to work with materials that already exist if the project is a remodeling job.
Most interior designers are required to have a bachelor’s degree in the field, and the coursework usually includes but is not limited to: drawing; computer aided design; color theory; textile and materials instruction; spatial planning; ergonomics; psychology; furniture design; and history of the business and furniture construction. Once you have received your degree you will be able to test for your license if your state requires it and open the door towards an exciting new career working with trade personnel.
