Fashion design is a highly creative career but most students know that they need more than just talent to thrive in this industry -- they also need the right training. In Pennsylvania, students can expect excellent training in fashion design by choosing from either an Associate degree or a Bachelor’s degree. The most popular programs are Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising and Fashion Marketing. Some schools offer accelerated programs so students can complete a Bachelor’s degree in just 3 years or even less. For students who can’t attend a regular class or those who prefer a more flexible class schedule, online training is also available.
Students train for a potentially lucrative career in fashion design through courses involving design, fashion, business, marketing and technology. They may also opt to take courses in live design, sewing, weaving, knitting and accessory design to hone their skills. The programs are meant to teach students all the aspects involved in fashion and design to prepare them for future work.
Career prospects
Graduates of Pennsylvania fashion design schools often move to Allentown, particularly because of the high number of population and also because the median salary for designers is highest in this area. Fashion design graduates typically work as either independent business owners or employed by another established designer or designing house. They also find jobs with major high-end fashion stores and boutiques and manufacturers of fashion accessories and supplies.
