In this course students are introduced to basic drafting techniques, terminology, and symbology used in design, including use of equipment, lettering, and orthographic drawing. It also explores the use of freehand sketching and rendering techniques. This course is a prerequisite to all interior design studio and technical drawing courses.
INT 259 TEXTILES
Students explore the nature of man-made and natural fibers and their production, uses, and characteristics. Content includes discussion of yarn, fabrics, finishes, design methods, aesthetic application, and ordering specifications.
INT 168 INTERIOR SPACE
Students apply the principles of 3D design to the development of interior space. Content includes the use of basic ordering principles of space and spatial theories of organization and circulation. Students develop skill and judgment in arranging and defining three-dimensional space. They graphically present their ideas through conceptual sketching, model building, and production of axonometric and orthographic drawings.
INT 358 INTERIOR DETAILING
The study of materials and fabrication techniques involved in the design and installation of basic interior details for cabinetry, floor, ceiling, and walls is the focus of this course. Content includes how details are communicated in the documents package.
International Academy of Design and Technology
The Interior Design program prepares students to develop creative and technical solutions for interior spaces that meet aesthetic and functional requirements while addressing safety, regulatory, and environmental concerns. Students will apply the fundamentals of art and design, theories of design, “green design”, and an understanding of human behavior to their design solutions. Critical thinking, research, analysis, documentation, and drawing and presentation skills are incorporated in the design process. Students have an opportunity to explore creativity through the selection of colors, materials and finishes, textiles, lighting solutions, furnishings, and other interior elements to solve design problems.
Emphasis is placed on the study of two and three dimensional design fundamentals, color, design theories, technical knowledge, visual communication and historical precedent as applied to basic design solutions.
INTR 105 Drafting
This course provides an introduction to manual drafting techniques, with the focus on terminology and process. Learning experiences will include the opportunity to letter architecturally, describe and graphically construct interior floor plans, elevations, and other basic interior construction documents.
INTR 260 Interior Design I
The content for this studio course builds upon information learned in previous courses. Emphasis will be placed on the application of the fundamental phases of the design process as related to a living environment. Learning experiences will offer opportunities to critically investigate distinct interior design issues and create solutions to specific spatial challenges through the development of a professional interior design project and presentation.
INTR 250 Computer Aided Design II
Computer Aided Design II are used to create a comprehensive interior working drawing set using a previously designed project. Techniques for creating and managing sheet sets and streamlining the drawing process are emphasized. Basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems used in construction are addressed in relation to interior spaces.
INTR 330 Lighting Design for Interiors
This course covers the study of the physics of light through the examination of the control of natural and artificial light and how the human eye responds to those conditions. Content will include the analysis and evaluation of various classes of light sources and fixtures with an emphasis on human factors, energy efficiency, safety and desired lighting effects. Assessment and application of lighting solutions will be applied to design challenges.
