This program of study is designed to prepare the student to create, produce, and distribute interactive media, including video, audio, 2D and 3D for purposes of communication and entertainment. Students will have the opportunity to develop basic design skills for application to visual problem solving. Additionally, students are expected to develop skills in project management and team collaboration demonstrating business and communication practices required for employment in the worldwide workplace. The program will culminate in the preparation of a professional entry level portfolio.
DESIGN 255 Video Production
This course will introduce the basic concepts of video production within a multimedia environment. The use of industry standard hardware and software to capture, convert and edit video will be explored. Different shooting techniques of small format distribution will be compared and contrasted.
DESIGN 355 Video Editing
An examination of editing theory, history and aesthetics leading toward postproduction technology and techniques required to deliver professional quality digital video. Students have the opportunity to capture and edit digital footage using traditional techniques and effects, with output to be distributed in a variety of formats. Visual quality, broadcast standards, and format compression will also be examined.
DESIGN 230 Interactive Media I
This course will explore interface design theory and its implementation. This will serve as a foundation course covering drawing, animation, importing external graphics, audio and video elements and using them to construct effective web interfaces.
ANMT 290 StudioTechniques I
This class examines production techniques used in transferring cells to film and to video. Film, audio, video basics and compositing of various media are also covered.
The Art Institute of Tennessee
The Digital Filmmaking & Video Production program prepares students for the next generation of digital production and delivery, who can meet the needs of corporate communication, television, e-business, and other media outlets for their existing markets. It enables students to create compelling, effective, and aesthetical content to be delivered on CD, DVD, videotape, broadband Internet, and/or other emerging means of technology, and prepares them for successful entry-level employment in the field. The curriculum for this program focuses upon three main categories of the production cycle: preproduction, production and postproduction. In preproduction courses students learn the elements of storytelling and scriptwriting, color theory, history of digital filmmaking, and video production. Production courses include audio and video production; photography and cinematography; animation; color theory; directing and producing. The postproduction skills are attained through coursework in editing, compositing, motion graphics, and studio courses that simulate a production cycle.
VID 260 DIGITAL FILMMAKING ON LOCATION
Students are immersed in the process of professional field production, shooting on location from a developed script and storyboard. Pre-production and production processes are emphasized.
VID 255 ADVANCED VIDEOGRAPHY AND LIGHTING
This course advances students’ knowledge and use of cameras and lighting by exploring the visual and technical aspects of digital filmmaking. Emphasis is placed on integrating audio production, camera placement, and lighting concepts as the integral supporting nexus to this creative process.
VID 121 DIGITAL CINEMATOGRAPHY
Students are introduced to the video camera as a technical and creative tool for communication and art by emphasizing camera technology and operation, as well as industry techniques and standards of composition and sequencing. Students get hands-on operation of industry-standard production equipment.
VID 101 INTRODUCTION TO VIDEO PRODUCTION
Students are introduced to the aesthetics and techniques of telling a story for the screen through the video production process. Films, reading, lectures, and hands-on practical experience in beginning camera techniques, lighting, and audio are practiced. Students gain fundamental knowledge of theory and techniques from which they can progress to more advanced studies and projects in the field.
